Joe Bacarella "I was quite surprised today surfing the Net and read of the passing of a great Naval Aviator I met early at VQ-3. Lance Aikens was on my first crew & I learned much from him. Lance, an accomplished skydiver & Instructor taught me how to jump from a perfectly good aircraft he flew after we removed the door from an AeroClub Cessna 172. I also dove on many Guam dives with the NAS Scuba Club diving with Lance & his lovely wife Debie while at VQ-3. Lance passes away 29 September 2017 in a Controlled Flight into Terrain Aircraft Accident in Brinnon, Jefferson County, Washington on a Cross Country Instructional Night Flight.
