Fallen Message from Irish: Coach Hal “ Hawk” Willard

Many of you won’t know Coach Hal “ Hawk” Willard unless you served at Pax and used the Drill Hall for physical training or sports.

Coach Willard was the Athletic Director from 1983 to 2018- 35 years. He organized intramural sports programs for squadrons as well as youth sports programs for dependents. So through his leadership of  Pax Athletic facilities he impacted readiness and happiness of many of our Sailors and their families.

Coach Willard passed away this year and a few of us are petitioning the Base to name the Drill Hall after Coach Willard in his honor and memory.

Red Dog Summerday , Gil Gaxiola , myself and many others benefitted from Coach Willard’s leadership and commitment to a Sailor ‘s physical fitness and that of his family.
