Michael Thomas Fischer, age 40 of Lexington, KY formerly of Mayfield, KY passed away Monday September 15, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY.
Michael is survived by his son, Timothy Fischer of Golo, KY; his father David Fischer of Hickory, KY; his older sister Theresa (Greg) Hobbs of Hickory, KY and his younger sister, Britt (Michelle) Fischer of Grand Rapids, MI; Michael is, also, survived by his fiancé, Mary Davis of Lexington, KY.
He is preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Frankie and Tamara Frizzell and his big brother, Timothy Fischer, all of Mayfield, KY.
Michael was a proud veteran of the United States Navy who served his country with honor and distinction. He enlisted as an Aviation Support Equipment Technician, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. During his service, he was recognized with the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, reflecting his commitment during a critical period in our nation’s history. He was honorably discharged and transferred to the Naval Reserve in 2010, where he remained ready to answer his nation’s call.
Michael was an avid University of Michigan fan, following his deep Michigan family roots. To know Michael was to know he’d more than likely show up with that stinky Michigan hat, just as his big brother always did. Music was a language for Michael, often choosing songs to label important events or people in his life. If he couldn’t find the right words, he knew the perfect song that could do it for him. Another one of Michael’s love languages was food, getting that characteristic from his dad. Michael could fix anything as long as there was some chicken and shrimp Alfredo on the menu-or maybe a killer breakfast burrito- made with the most pure love.
One thing Michael loved and cherished more than anything was his family. Although Michael will be dearly missed, it’s comforting to know he is reunited with so many of the family he has missed over the past few years.
Michael’s family would like to send a special thank you to the ICU team at UK Healthcare Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY for the impeccable care they provided during his last days. His family is forever grateful for their service and dedication to their patients.
A memorial service for Michael Thomas Fischer is scheduled for 5:00 PM Monday September 29, 2025 at the Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Paul West will officiate. A memorial visitation will be held from 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM Monday September 29, 2025 at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #26.
The TACAMO Community extends its sympathy and prayer for peace to Michael's family and friends during this time of the passing.
Didn't know him personally but as a VQ-4 brother sorry for your loss. I live in Nicholasville and did 3 tours in VQ-4 retired in 1991.
