Greeting All,
It’s an exciting day for the TACAMO community! Today, I am proud and humbled to announce the official popular name for the Navy’s new TACAMO mission aircraft, E-130J, Phoenix II.
A phoenix is known for its resilience, exceptionally long lifespan, and ability to transform and continue its purpose. The PMA-271 team has remained committed to the ideals of TACAMO’s critical deterrence mission when developing this new platform, transforming the legacy aircraft into a new weapon system with unmatched survivability and longevity for our country.
The E-130J Phoenix II will relieve the E-6B of the TACAMO mission and will mark a return, or transformation, to the C-130 platform, which flew the mission as the EC-130Q from 1964-1992.
I hope you feel prideful as a contributor and member of this community at this pivotal time in its legacy. Please share this exciting news with your teams.
Very Respectfully,
Captain Davis
CAPT Roger “Raji” Davis
Major Program Manager
Airborne Strategic C3 Program Office (PMA-271)

Why Phoenix II? Was there a Phoenix I? And why is it the E-130J vs. EC-130J? Inquiring minds want to know.
I love it. I had 4 C-130 tours, VQ-4, 2 tours in VQ-3 and a tour with the Airforce as Instructor with the 16th TATS. All total 8000 hours. No where close to our Flight Engineers with 10 and 15 thousand hours. I'm looking forward to Lockheed in Nov. Cheers Bullet
Love this xx
